Unsung Heroes or Ignored Assets? The cost of overlooking the talent you already have at home.
In the world of C-suite management, there is a phenomenon as common as it is dangerous: the "Outsource Effect."
It occurs when an in-house professional—who understands the day-to-day operations and the inner gears of the business—designs a strategic move or a process improvement that saves or generates millions. However, in the company’s official narrative, that achievement "slips under the radar" or, worse, is attributed to an external consulting firm or the Project Manager of the moment who "came in to fix the problem."
The problem isn’t ego; it’s strategic invisibility.
When a high-level professional provides a disruptive solution and it goes unrecognized, it creates a brutal information asymmetry. The leader believes success came from the outside (the mechanics), while the true solution was born from the internal operational psychology that was already there.
The consequences of "protecting" the wrong ego
Many leaders mistake the desire for recognition for "ego," when it is actually a human need for Significance and Certainty. If a professional feels their achievements are being absorbed by third parties:
1- Innovation Ceases: Why go the "extra mile" if someone else gets the credit?
2-Intellectual Property Drain: A professional who isn't seen at home will eventually look for a mirror that reflects their true value.
3- Operational Fiction: The company becomes dependent on external consultants for solutions its own employees already know how to solve, unnecessarily inflating costs.
My approach as a Clear Mirror
My job is to align egos, and to audit the reality of merit.
I help leaders identify where value is truly generated within their organization.
It is time to clean the mirror: If you are that professional moving the needle on millions in silence, or if you are the leader who suspects they are ignoring internal talent by looking outward, it is time to clean the mirror.
The solution doesn’t always come from an external firm; often, the solution is already on your desk, waiting to be seen.
Stop paying for solutions you already have in-house. Discover how to identify internal talent and optimize your operational psychology.
